5/ Google To Ditch SMS Codes For Billions Of Users
In the "shot heard around the world," Google is finally moving away from SMS one-time passwords 🎉
Davey Winder at Forbes broke the story and it has had massive pickup in the media
"Just like we want to move past passwords with the use of things like passkeys," Gmail spokesperson Ross Richendrfer told Forbes, "we want to move away from sending SMS messages for authentication."
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) declared the method insecure back in 2016 yet it is still a dominant tool used for phone verification, step-up, or #2FA & #MFA
